Skiing in Bergen and a vessel tour

Earlier last week we had typical winter Bergen weather with a storm bringing in lots of rain and hail. By Thursday that hail and rain was turning into snow. We woke up on Friday to a beautiful scene and I decided to try to leave work earlier than usual to enjoy a hike on the mountain with Pancho. Saturday we walked from our house to a nearby trailhead and walked our skis up to the flat, and then skied into the valley. We did not cover much distance because the snow was deep and soft, but we had a lot of fun!

[I think our house looks so cute in the winter setting. Love it!]

The weather looks beautiful today too, but the weather service is predicting rising temps and rain the whole next two weeks. So much for that. Thank goodness we get a break from Bergen weather in about a month!

The IMR has gotten a couple of new research vessels this year (Kristine Bonevie and Dr. Fridtjof Nansen), and we are expected to get a third sometime this year (Kron Prins Håkon). I believe all of these boats are refurbished boats given upgraded equipment and furnishings. When talking about Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, for example,  before being upgraded the boat was referred to as Gamle Nansen (Old Nansen). This boat is due to research off the coast of Africa, so I doubt I'll be given the opportunity to work aboard this boat, but who knows....maybe one day.
